Welcome to the Spring issue of VFX Voice!

Coming off of our capacity-crowd 16th Annual VES Awards, which took place on February 13 in Beverly Hills, California, this issue celebrates the artists and innovators from across the globe who created outstanding visual effects in film, TV, animation commercials, gaming and special venues.

In this issue we examine VFX trends – effects pros moving behind the camera into the director’s chair and the compelling art of VFX breakdowns. We look at three of the season’s most anticipated films – Annihilation, Early Man and juggernaut A Wrinkle in Time. We highlight VFX powerhouse Double Negative upon its 20th anniversary, go inside the gaming boom and spotlight VR at the intersection of technology and advocacy in our special profile of “The Godmother of VR” Nonny de la Peña. Add to that VES News and a profile of the VES New Zealand Section.

Our first year publishing VFX Voice has been a wonderful experience, and the magazine’s success has surpassed our expectations thanks to your enthusiastic support. We are very excited to bring you another year of this dynamic addition to the VES legacy.

Moving forward, we at VFX Voice are planning more articles that dive deep into issues of significant importance to our community, while continuing to deliver extraordinary visuals, in-depth profiles and insightful stories that highlight the exceptional artists and innovators all across our global community.

In addition to the print edition, we encourage you to access the full digital version at VFXVoice.com where you can also catch our web exclusives – new and timely stories between issues that you can only find online. You can also get updates on VFX Voice features – as well as VES and VFX industry news – by following us on Twitter at @VFXSociety.

We hope you will share VFX Voice with your colleagues to help us grow the community, and continue to send us your thoughts and ideas. Thank you again to our readers, writers and advertisers for your partnership!
