The VES Board of Directors officers for 2019, who comprise the VES Board Executive Committee, were elected at the January 2019 Board meeting. The officers include Mike Chambers, a renowned freelance visual effects producer who is beginning his fifth term as Chair of the VES.

The 2019 Officers of the VES Board of Directors are:

  • Chair: Mike Chambers
  • 1st Vice Chair: Jeffrey A. Okun, VES
  • 2nd Vice Chair: Lisa Cooke
  • Treasurer: Brooke Lyndon-Stanford
  • Secretary: Rita Cahill

The officers reflect a combination of returning Executive Committee members – Chambers, Okun and Cahill – and newly elected officers, Cooke and Lyndon-Stanford, who have served on the global board and in leadership positions with their Sections.

“We are fortunate to have such esteemed leadership represented on the Executive Committee,” said Eric Roth, VES Executive Director. “Collectively, these talented professionals bring passion, diverse experience and enormous commitment to our organization. We look forward to Mike Chambers’ continued vision in taking the organization and our global membership to new heights.”

VES WELCOMES ITS 14TH SECTION – GEORGIA

As a flourishing global honor society, the Visual Effects Society’s international presence owes much to its thriving network of Sections, who lend their expertise and entrepreneurship to galvanize their regional VFX communities while advancing the reach and reputation of our organization and the industry worldwide.

Our newest VES Section in Georgia (U.S.) joins those in Australia, San Francisco’s Bay Area, France, Germany, India, London, Los Angeles, Montreal, New York, New Zealand, Toronto, Vancouver and Washington. This new Section is poised to offer exciting, new opportunities to all VES members in Georgia. Congratulations and welcome!

VES ARCHIVE INITIATIVE

The Society has embarked on an exciting and wide-reaching archive project to capture, preserve and share the rich history of the visual effects community. This will be an enduring and living initiative that builds on our extensive catalog of videos and will serve VFX artists and practitioners, the entertainment industry, and the general public.

Under the leadership of our new Archives Committee Chair Lisa Cooke and Co-Chair Kim Lavery, VES, the initiative will endeavor to capture the full richness of our craft – from recording our luminaries to documenting all the props and physical assets currently housed in hundreds of private collections. The goal is to shine a light on all the unique visual effects techniques that go into the intricate planning of the most difficult shots and create a speaker’s series to highlight the behind-the-scenesstories that only insiders know about. VES will showcase this treasure trove in a new online digital library.

“Through this exciting project, the VES will create a legacy by documenting and showcasing the people, treasures and techniques of the visual effects industry for future generations,” said Roth.
